Unveiling the KINGPIN: Ringbrothers' Revolutionary Restomod
A Mustang's Evolution: From Icon to Innovation
At the SEMA Show, a legendary event in Las Vegas, Ringbrothers presented a stunning transformation of a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1, now known as the KINGPIN. This project, a labor of love spanning over 5,500 hours, showcases how a classic can be reimagined for a new era.
The Evolution of an American Classic
The KINGPIN's journey began with a complete structural overhaul. The original unibody was replaced with a Roadster Shop FAST TRACK Stage III chassis, widening and lengthening the car's stance. This subtle yet powerful modification sets the tone for the rest of the transformation.
A New Look, a Familiar Spirit
Ringbrothers' interpretation of the Mustang is a masterpiece of modern design. The bodywork, crafted with precision, features crisp lines and a bold volume, giving the car a fresh, contemporary feel. The use of BASF's Bootleg Black paint, a tone that absorbs light, allows the car's geometry to speak for itself, creating a unique and powerful presence.
Carbon fiber, a modern material, is seamlessly integrated into the design, from the rear diffuser to the grille surround. This blend of old and new not only enhances the car's performance but also adds a layer of visual consistency.
Performance Meets Design
The KINGPIN's performance is as impressive as its looks. Under the hood, a powerful 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, paired with a Whipple supercharger, delivers an astonishing 800+ horsepower. This engine, combined with a six-speed manual Bowler gearbox and a tuned independent suspension, ensures a dynamic driving experience.
The Flowmaster Super 44 exhaust adds to the car's character, emitting a deep, mechanical tone that complements the visual weight of the build.
A Modern Interior, a Tactile Experience
The KINGPIN's interior continues the theme of disciplined composition. Upholstery, brightwork, and carbon elements are carefully balanced, creating a harmonious space. The custom ENYO crushed-carbon hoop steering wheel, Dakota Digital gauges, and a Vintage Air Gen IV system come together to create an interior that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Co-owner Jim Ring explains, "We wanted to honor the Mustang's original design while adding our own touch. We sharpened the lines and created a darker, more modern presence."
The Perfect Balance
The KINGPIN's widened and lengthened body gives it a more balanced and contemporary stance. This subtle change enhances the car's overall aesthetics and performance, making it a true 21st-century Mustang.
So, what do you think? Is this restomod a successful blend of old and new, or does it stray too far from the Mustang's iconic roots? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
